INFORMATION:OCCUPATION: Joseph a shoemaker, cordwainer
There was no easily followed source for a parent or parents of John Hadfield
in Derbyshire in any of the parishes, glossop, hayfield, chinley, new mills, hadfield and etc (none of them) in church parish records with real detail info there are simply hints, clues, incomplete info, difficult to trace.Joseph, without spouse listed, fathered many children in Hayfield and Glossop parishes, there
were obviously more than one Joseph. very little detail remains.after further research I began searching the name Alice Morris, a known 3rd spouse of our John. I found the marriage certificate of John Hadfield and Alice Morris, in the BDM index GRO England for 1851 see website of Roger Hadfield http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hadfield/ certificate is contained at the following marriage index year 1851 and fische number 534, copy ordered. from year 1851 Manchester vol 20 page 562
certificate lists age of john 55 & age of Alice 40 (same as 1851 census above mentioned) and although it was out of MANCHESTER look at a map 20 miles from Glossop. Also it is a popular large Church of England chapel. A carriage ride of two or three hours. (see the pigot directory of 1835 for carriage schedules) It indicates John from Glossop Derbyshire, Alice was indicated from Lancashire. Johns fathers name on certificate is JOSEPH HADFIELD, Shoemaker.
Further proof of this marriage and therefore Joseph as father, The 1851 census finds John of Derbyshire and Alice (Morris) of Lancashire living in Glossop, along with 9 chldren from prevoius marriage of John to Ann (Unwin)
I found a Joseph Hadfield listed as fathering a son named John, christened at Mellor, Hayfield and or Heanor, in Derbyshire on 24 Nov 1793 on the lds www.familysearch.org site and on marions transcripts website for copy from the parish register of Hayfield at http://www.jigrah.co.uk/mwpages/mwprhayf.htm wherein is referenced HADFIELD extracts from Hayfield St Matthew Parish Church, Derbyshire; taken from LDS Films 428915, 498088 & 2082374 and from M407, M561, M562, D2426 A/P1 2/5, D2426 A/P1 3/4, D2426 A/P1 3/5 & D2426 A/P1 5/5 at Matlock Record Office. The birth would have been prior to the baptism of course, and remains unknown exactly.Joseph appears in UK census, 1841, district 1 (called Phoside) folio 6 page 6 household 24, Hayfield census. It shows joseph 75 shoemaker living with mary and esther 25 and 12 and an unknown 22 Samuel Owen, shoemaker apprentice http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dusk/1841_hayfield_index/1841_hayfield_index_12.html
Also I have the record of a Marriage of Mary Hadfield to Samual Bennett, Glossop Parish of 11 Apr 1843 Samuel BENNETT full Farmer Chinley f: James BENNETT Farmer Mary HADFIELD full Hadfield f: Joseph HADFIELD Shoemaker Wit: Isaac RANGELEY George HADFIELD All family names in our tree. Esp Rangeley ties this in to our family. Joseph is the father, Isaac rangeley is a witness, john Hadfields brother in law and George Hadfield is her brother, Josephs son, Johns Brother. Mary was 25 in the 1841 census mentioned earlier just above, and now this marriage she is two years older, 27. Joseph is still alive at 77, but dies the next year according to death/burial records now listed for Hayfield District
19 Oct 1844 Burials Joseph Hadfield 78 Died 16 Oct 1844
also bmd index shows in 4th quarter 1844 Joseph of Hayfield death notice. copy should be ordered from GRO.

DEATH: 30 Aug 1843 Mary HADFIELD Hayfield 78 died 26 Aug
BIRTH: I found a Joseph Hadfield of Edale christened 25 May 1766 parents George Hadfield, Ann Bagshaw (see edale families, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hadfield/) could be likely candidate due to date of birth and death, and due to familiar names of uncles, grandparents, etc if indeed this is OUR Joseph. also connections to Marriots, and Bennetts. in wills etc.BIRTH: also found a Joseph Hadfield of Hayfield christened 24 Sep 1768 parent Joseph Hadfield again no details of this parent or spouse other than father,
BIRTH: also a Joseph Hadfield, parent is John of Hayfield,(& MARY??) Christened 24 Feb 1764\
BIRTH: and finally most likely to the current date, a Joseph Hadfield of William Hadfield, born 18 Jun 1764 in Hayfield, William Hadfield married Mary Higginbottom, registered parish Glossop, 1749 so they should have a LOT of children in pr one, interesting that I have found is a Henry Hadfield likely the brother, he married a Betty Wolfenden several years prior to Joseph marrying Mary Wolfenden.
