BIOGRAPHY: ships log, NY passenger landing in New York on 26 Feb 1863, shows  Alice, William Shaw and Hannah on the ship City of Washington, captain John Shirehouse,  he is listed as passenger number  71.     69 years of age in 1863 is if Month after Feb, birth of 1793 year of birth.  His declaration of intent dated 29 Oct 1864, states as follows, Emigrated to the US and landed at the port of NY on or about the month of October AD 1862, he may have made two trips then.

DEATH: in 2005, personal visit to Waukesha Wisc with my cousin Carolyn Jewell (Harshfield/Hadfield) we found working papers in
library reference  showing more detail on his death as follows:  John died in the residence of his daughter Mrs Isaac Newton of Paralytic Stroke on 12 Dec 1865 age 74 yrs. = birth year 1791
