For most virus and spy ware problems, the occurrence usually happens in between no level of protection to your computer from your current virus and spy ware protection programs,  either you have not updated the definitions in a while, because the automatic update has been turned off, or you have allowed the program to expire without renewing your subscription to the software in a timely fashion. Or worse yet, you did not even HAVE a spy ware or virus protection program.    Renewing "later" is not a good idea, and if you had received a virus in the interim  you may not be able to clean it by simply renewing or purchasing the software now. Often for Symantec NORTON products you must uninstall a previous version, and often you must download an uninstaller direct from www.symantec.com search for SymNRT.exe oin order to completely remove previous version, as the new version will not install properly in many instances as a clean upgrade/  Some viruses are rather stubborn, and require special handling to remove.  You may already know that most computer technicians and repair stores charge a fair amount of money to remove your problems, simply because of hours of labor involved, and often times they will talk you into removing your entire operating system, and all data, and restore the computer to factory configuration,  simply because they  do not want to spend the time to properly fix  the problems  involved.  My shop fees are NOT exorbitant.  I guarantee my work.   I follow up with free completion if the first attempt was not complete.   I refund where the customer is not satisfied.    What about your current repair shop experience???   If you cannot complete your repairs call me or a well known reputable computer repair technician/shop.  


The following instructions are written to those that have at least a fair amount of computer know how and terminology.   You do not have to be a geek or whiz in "computerese", but if you are not familiar with this level of instruction you should get help from someone who is a bit more knowledgeable. When attempting to log onto the internet you are not able to, due to a spy ware or virus issue.  Then attempt to do the following procedure.  I am assuming that you have high speed internet access, however phone access may work as well, but the process will be VERY slow and take a LONG time.



Start  your computer up in safe mode.  Turn Computer completely OFF.   First Start up computer and at first monitor display (dell logo or equivalent) begin stroking (tap it several times in succession) the F8 key.   If you get a boot choice menu instead, choose hard drive or IDE 0, as the boot choice <enter choice> and then as soon as that menu disappears and boot continues, again stroke the F8 Key (tap, tap tap.....)  when the safe mode choice comes up  choose the safe mode with networking option.  by using the up down arrow key, and the enter key on your keyboard. A mouse will NOT work until you are in the desktop.

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

 

 

   
 
 
 

(Windows XP, Windows 2000, and SOME windows 98 and ME have this choice, but many Windows ME and 98 systems do NOT have it)  It you do NOT have the option, you cannot continue. simply restart normally. However if  you choose the SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING  option, the computer will boot into a safe mode and may ask you to log on normally, you do not have to log on as administrator if you do not know an administrator password, simply choose the other log on shown as your choice.   Once up to desktop, your monitor will show safe mode in the corners of the desktop, and the screen colors will look strange, but that is normal for this mode.   click onto the internet browser, or perform a normal dialup, if it will allow (some modems may not operate in safe mode, you MUST then take your computer to a shop or technician) , and then online, go to the following website link shown here:  http://housecall.trendmicro.com/   please NOTE that there is NO www.  in front of the housecall. While at this web page,  you will see a link, scan now, Its Free.     click on that link.   at this point or shortly you may receive an active x install requirement on a yellow menu bar at or near the top of the browser.  click or right click the yellow active x bar, and choose to download or install the active x component. (YOU MUST)  also again, you must click on the link,   SCAN NOW, ITS FREE  once the install of active x is complete.   Continue on with any prompts noted., accept the terms of use (place checkmark)   click on Launching House Call   after performing compatibility check, you may receive two choices, java Based, or Browser plug in.    the simpler one is Browser plug in.  choose that link.   (starting house call)  Follow continuation prompts to scan and repair your computer.  If you do not have your own, download and install free anti-spy ware or anti-virus programs from my website at www.techdoctor.org/downloads.htm    Once complete restart your computer and load and update any spy ware or virus software or install new similar software purchased at a retail outlet.  You will now be able to complete your repairs.  You will now be able to log onto the internet in regular mode.  Share this with your family and friends who may have this particular problem.  Don't forget to contribute where appreciated,  see instructions at the beginning of this page.
